The City of Gallatin is located within Sumner County, just 30 minutes northeast of Nashville, Tennessee. It is in the heart of the country, nestled along both Old Hickory Lake and the Cumberland River. Both bodies of water provide abundant opportunities for fishing, boating and other water sports. Gallatin attracts visitors and tourists from all over the country and North America with our numerous city parks, Long Hollow Golf Course and Gallatin Civic Center, along with many other amenities.
In recent years, Gallatin has become an even more exciting hub with various activities along the Town Square. The numerous shops and restaurants have revitalized the area, and the town continues to grow rapidly. Conveniently located nearby is the City of Hendersonville which also offers a wide variety of restaurants.
Sumner County's labor pool is capable of supporting industries of all kinds. Gallatin was named for Albert Gallatin, a rich Swiss immigrant, who moved to America in the 1780’s. He served as the Secretary of the Treasury under two presidents and helped plan the Lewis & Clark expedition. Gallatin is a rapidly growing city with a current population of more than 50,000.
In 1802, Gallatin was designated as the permanent county seat for Sumner County. It was built around a traditional town square where Gallatin’s first general store was founded by former U.S. President Andrew Jackson.
